Venue

The conference will be held in Ustroń, Poland. Ustroń is a picturesque holiday and health resort situated about 80 km south of Katowice, at 400 m above sea-level in the valley of the river Wisła (Vistula), and surrounded by the Beskids Mountains, rich in forest mountains.

How to get to Ustroń:

We suggest  choose route via Katowice city.
From the other cities  than Katowice (with international airports) there are no direct bus or train connections to Ustroń!

A coach bus will take the participants from the Institute of Physics, Katowice, Uniwersytecka 4 Street, to Ustroń and back. The bus will depart:
  • from Katowice to Ustroń on 1st August 2013 at 5pm (17.00),
  • from Ustroń to Katowice on 6th August 2013 soon after conference end.
It will also be  a bus from Ustroń to Cracow  6th August 2013 soon after conference end.


Driving time is about 2 hours.

On Sunday we are at Bankowa 14, in a building next to the main Institute
of Physics building (see on the map).

In the room 357 (2nd floor) you can take a rest and leave your luggage.
How to get there will be marked by arrows and confrence posters.
We remind you that the bus will set off at 17.00, sharply. After this
time it can be hard to get to Ustroń, so try to be on time.

How to get to Institute of Physics,  from Katowice International Airport (so called Pyrzowice):

Airport is located 36 km outside the city.
 
1. From the airport You can get shuttle bus (so called "Airport line").
 
One way ticket costs 27 PLN and it can be bought directly in the bus. Travel time is about 45 minutes.

You will have to get off the bus on "Katowice Hotel Novotel" or "Katowice Dworzec PKP" (Train Station) stop.
Both are located close to Institute (5-10  and 10-15 miutes of slow walk).

Characteristic building near (100 m next to) Institute of Physic is Altus Skyscraper.

2. Other possibility is to take taxi. 
Approximated cost is 130 PLN. Travel time is 30 minutes.
You can ask taxi driver to get you off  opposite main entrance of Altus Skyscraper or to park on internal university parking (15 minutes of parking is free of charge!)



How to get to Institute of Physics (in Katowice city),  from Balice International Airport (Cracow city):
Balice Airport (full name: John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice) is located 10km from the center of Cracow and 75km from Institute of Physics (in Katowice city).
 
1. Direct taxi connection to KATOWICE ...
... is of course possible, relative expensive (450 PLN so about 110 EURO!) but fast (airport is located next to A4 Cracow-Katowice highway). You might be asked for additional 20 PLN for highway . Driving time is about 35-40 minutes.

2. For all other options, first of all,  You will have to go to the center of Cracow (three possibilities):
2.1. There is a train...
....line from airport to the Cracow Central Station. "Airport" station is located 200 meters outside the airport (on  those two hundred meters runs shuttle bus :) ).
Travel time: 20 minutes, cost of one way ticket: 12 PLN. You will have to get off on the last stop - Cracow Central Station (Kraków Główny).
Next follow instructions in point 3.

2.2. You can  also take  a public bus.
Line numbers 208 (see timetable), 292 (see timetable) or 902 (see timetable). You will have to get off the bus on "Dworzec Główny" (Cracow Central  Station) stop, which in fact is the last one. Cost of one way ticket: 4/2 PLN (normal/reduced). Travel time: 40-50 minutes.

2.3. Taxi ...
...  taxi has to drive around in Cracow  Central Central Station. Here You can get details about cost  and  possible reservations.

3.  Cracow Central  Station, municipial bus stop and intercity bus stop (R.D.A.) are near each other (see on the map).
Now You have two options:
3.1. A good idea is the choice of intercity bus.
There are several operators i.e. Uni Bus (see timetable, stand 9) or Inter (see timetable) or Polski Bus (see timetable, online reservation possible).  
Cost of one way ticket: 14/12 PLN (normal/reduced).
Travel time: 1h 20min.
In Katowice You will stop near Katowice Central Train Station and next You can walk (10-15 minutes) (see map) to Institute of Physics.

3.2.  On the route to Katowice runs many trains. Due to the reconstruction of the tracks the journey takes even longer than two hours.

Ticket prices depend on the operator (up to 25 PLN for second class).
From Katowice Central Station You can walk (10-15 minutes) (see map) to Institute of Physics.



How to get to Institute of Physics (in Katowice city),  from Chopin International Airport (Warsaw city):
 
Chopin airport is commonly known as OKĘCIE.
First of all you will have to move to the town center. It is well documented on the Airport website.

1.1. If you choose a taxi, do not be fooled by hustlers! There are licensed taxi services offered at airport.
Price from cheaters may be three times higher than the official!
1.2. Buses number 175 and N32 are going to the Central Railway Station. (see timetables)
Travel tme approximately 30 minutes.
1.3. The best option is to travel by train to the  Central Railway Station. Trains depart approximately every twenty minutes.

2. Next from Central Railway Station You can catch lot of trains going to and through Katowice.
The schedule is available at Route Planner. (In the "Means of Transport" section remember to choose "direct connections").
There is three operators on the line.
Fastest and the most expensive: PKP Intercity, at the search engine called EIC  (2h48min up to 3h, 130 PLN for second class), 
and two slower and cheaper (called IR: 3h30, 60 PLN and called TLK up to 4h20min, 60 PLN).
From Katowice Central Station You can walk (10-15 minutes) (see map) to Institute of Physics.



How to get to Institute of Physics (in Katowice city),  from Copernicus Airport (Wrocław city):

First of all  you will have to move to the Central Railway Station. Two options:
1.1. By the bus, line number 406
to the last stop so called "DWORCOWA" (see timetable "w dni robocze" means "working days, "Sobota" - Saturday, and "Niedziala" - Sunday)

1.2. By taxi, be carefull not to overpaid. The proce is approximately 60 PLN. Ask to go to the Central Railway Station.

2.
From the Central Railway Station there is a lot of trains to Katowice.
Travel time is approximately 3h.

The price depends on the operator: EIC approximately 100 PLN;  IR, RE TLK approximately 40, 45, 50 PLN

From Katowice Central Station You can walk (10-15 minutes) (see map) to Institute of Physics.



Other alternatives connections.

Thera are two direct trains from Prague (Czech Republic) to Katowice a day. Travel time  5 hours.

There are three direct trains from Vienna (Austria) to Katowice a day. Travel time 5 up to 6 hours.
There is also a lot of buses on this line.

From the international airport in Ostrava (Czech Republic) to Ustroń is only 75 km (driving time is about one hour)!
There are direct flights to Ostrava from: Paris, Vienna, London, Prague

There are four direct trains from Ostrava to Katowice a day (non going
through Ustroń!!) and a lot of combined . Travel time is about 1h and 30 minutes.
Of course there is an option to take a taxi directly to Ustroń.
