Description
Electron Ion Collider (EIC) is a facility that will be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory using and upgrading existing RHIC complex. It is a partnership between BNL and Jefferson Lab, funded by the Department of Energy.
It will feature very high luminosity collisions between electrons and protons as well as ions, with center of mass energy up to 140 GeV. It will have polarized electron and proton beams, with possibility of polarized light ions. It can use wide range of nuclei beams, from lightest to very heavy ones like lead and uranium.
In this talk I will present physics possibilities offered by the precision measurements that will be performed at this facility, including studies of nuclear structure, proton tomography and exploration of the proton spin structure.
